West Midlands Trauma Network - Spinal Skills Audit 2016

The West Midlands Trauma Network is responsible for delivery of high quality trauma care in the units across the catchment population. A recent cross network multi-clinician review meeting on spinal trauma identified uncertainty about level of skills and competencies amongst clinical teams who care for this patient group outside of the Spinal Injuries Centres.  It was felt there was a clinical need to identify whether there is indeed a skills-gap in spinal care. If this were confirmed then a strategy to address these needs would be required and the Trauma Network would seek to develop this. This would then lead to improved and safer care for people with spinal injuries.

This questionnaire is designed to be used by frontline clinical staff who provide care to patients with spinal injuries. This includes Registered Nurses, Therapists and Medical Staff.  The purpose of the questionnaire is to give a genuine picture of training and competencies and confidence in using these with a view to up-skilling the whole clinical team to improve patient care.  The responses are anonymous, although we do need to identify which Unit you work in so that if needs are identified training and resource can be targeted appropriately.

Many thanks,

Network Team
